Invisible Candidate Releases Invisible Plan
Montpelier, Vt. - Today, Vermont Lt. Governor and Republican candidate for Governor Brian Dubie released a plan designed to help fix the current economic woes created in part by his boss, current Governor Jim Douglas. In response, Vermont Democratic Party Chairwoman Judy Bevans issued the following statement:
“The plan, entitled, ‘Pure Vermont’ is high on slogans and platitudes, but short on action and true initiative. In an effort to lay out a blueprint for our economic recovery, Brian Dubie has once again displayed his usual indifference to the issues that matter most to Vermonters. Brian has been invisible throughout this campaign season and this plan is just as transparent.
“What’s truly amazing is the seemingly contradictory method Brian lays out for our recovery. One need not look further than the introduction of the plan for evidence of this fact. Brian starts off telling us something every Vermonter knows – that a vibrant economy is built on good jobs. But then immediately, Brian moves on to discuss how government programs, the very thing that plays such a prominent role in his plans, are causing Vermont to lag behind.
“In the midst of one of the most severe economic crises ever faced by our nation and our state, Brian Dubie continues to lead the chorus of cutting spending while expanding services. Our state legislature has fought especially hard over these last two budget cycles to ensure we maintain essential services, vital to so many Vermonters, while reducing the overall burden on tax payers. Our next Governor must have a profound understanding of what it takes to make these cuts while preserving the common good.
“The legislature, lead by Peter Shumlin in the Senate, has made tough decisions and difficult compromises these past two sessions and the next session promises to be just as difficult. Now more than ever, we need to elect a governor who is not only knowledgeable about this process, but who has the vision to lead Vermont toward a better tomorrow.
“Brian has finally come out of the shadows to make public a plan that does little more than offer the same tired old remedy for Vermont that we have had for the past eight years. Voters will have a choice in November and I have every confidence Vermonters will see right through this invisible candidate and vote for real leadership.”
