Statement from Vermont Democratic Party Chairwoman Judy Bevans on Senator Doug Racine's Decision to Request a Recount of Votes in the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary Election
Montpelier, Vt. - This afternoon, gubernatorial candidate and Vermont State Senator Doug Racine requested a recount of the Primary Election votes in the race for the Democratic nomination for Governor. This followed the announcement from the Secretary of State's officed that Senator Peter Shumlin lead Senator Racine by a margin of 197 votes. In response, Vermont Democratic Party Chairwoman Judy Bevans issued the following statement:
"I support Doug Racine's decision to request a recount. We want to be absolutely certain that each ballot cast on Tuesday is properly tallied.
"We saw phenomenal interest in this race and were extremely fortunate to have five wonderful candidates from which to choose. I think it's a great thing we have such a process to make certain every vote counts.
"I look forward to a quick and decisive resolution of this matter and to supporting our eventual Democratic nominee."
