Vermont GOP Doubles Down on Divisive Political Games
Montpelier, VT-- While Vermonters are still digging themselves out after Irene, Vermont GOP Chair Pat McDonald is digging herself in deeper and playing political games with our recovery. In the wake of last month’s epic natural disaster, the Vermont GOP leadership has seized on the crisis as an opportunity to promote partisan politics and divide Vermonters by calling for a freeze on state spending. McDonald told the Burlington Free Press today that she plans to release a list of potential cuts, though she was intentionally vague about what that list might entail.
“Just like their Tea Party colleagues in Washington, the Vermont GOP leadership is intent on pitting people against each other for their own political gain,” said Jake Perkinson, Vermont Democratic Party Chair. “While most Vermonters are working together to emerge from Irene stronger than before, the Vermont Republican Party leadership is focused on scoring political points by posing a false choice between helping Irene victims recover and providing necessary services for Vermonters. Pitting our communities against each other in this time of crisis is just not the Vermont way.” ###
