Ambassador Peter Galbraith is busy writing the follow-up to his critically acclaimed best seller: The End of Iraq: How American Incompetence Created a War without End.

Between writing chapters, he was able to address the Democratic House Caucus at the State House. The reception he received was tremendous. Click on the video to watch some of the highlights.

Galbraith moves closer to running for governor
Vermont Public Radio - John Dillon

Democrat Peter Galbraith says he hasn't decided whether to run for governor. But he's moving closer - raising money and lining up political support. He just sent out a fundraising appeal for the state Democratic Party. And today Galbraith gave a speech to House Democrats that made him sound very much like a candidate.

Democratic legislators crowded into a Statehouse room Tuesday to hear from a man some of them hope will run for governor. "I see enormous opportunities in this next year for change," Peter Galbraith told the crowd. "Working with a Democratic president and a Democratic Congress, I think we can do more on health care, the environment and climate change."

Galbraith talks the talk of a candidate
Times Argus - Louis Porter

Galbraith – the head of his party in Vermont many years ago before getting involved in international diplomacy – spoke to Democrats in the Statehouse Tuesday moments before Gov. James Douglas gave his budget address. House members applauded as Galbraith said this will be a year of political change in the country and, perhaps, in Vermont.

Dear Friend,

I am sure you need no persuading as to the importance of this year’s election.

Our next President will have to get of out of Iraq, restore American leadership in the world, and take on challenges at home from economic recession to climate change. These are big challenges but also opportunities for real change.

In Vermont, we have a chance to end six years of stagnation with new progress. Health care is a human right, and not just for those who can afford it. We need leadership to unleash Vermont's potential in the new green economy, to better protect our environment and to find innovative ways to conserve all our precious resources. And, we should add our voices forcefully to those demanding an end to the Iraq War.

I am excited about the possibilities for Vermont — especially if we are working with a Democratic President and Congress — and for that reason I am now giving serious consideration to being a candidate for Governor.

Since my potential candidacy was first mentioned in the press, many Vermonters have contacted me asking how they can help. I am very grateful for these offers of support. In order to make them more concrete, I am launching the Vermont Leadership Fund with the help of the Vermont Democratic Party.

The Vermont Leadership Fund will support Democratic leaders on all levels around the state, and cultivate new leaders who will help build Vermont's future. It will highlight the multiple shortcomings of our administrations in Montpelier and Washington and present positive alternatives.

I hope you will join me in contributing to the Vermont Leadership Fund. Send whatever you can afford -- $50 or $100, more if you can afford it —to inaugurate this year of change in Vermont and our country.

Thank you,

Peter W. Galbraith
