Clear Contrast Between Minter and Scott
October 6, 2016
Burlington, VT In tonight’s PBS debate, the contrast between Sue Minter and Phil Scott was clearer than ever. Phil Scott solidified his plans to turn his back on working families in favor of trickle-down economics while Sue Minter promised to create an economy that works for all of Vermont.
“Tonight, the choice that voters have for governor was clearer than ever,” said Christina Amestoy, VDP spokesperson. “From Phil Scott, we heard the same national Republican talking points we’ve heard again and again. But from Sue Minter, we heard plans to strengthen our state by creating livable wage jobs, support our families, and protect our environment.
“Minter supports the policies that will help our middle-class families and increase opportunities for them - policies like paid leave, affordable access to higher education, and increasing the minimum wage. Under her leadership and with plans like Invest VT, Innovate VT and Vermont Promise we can create livable wage jobs and an economy that works for all Vermonters."
“On the other side, Scott’s campaign promises are just special tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations without a way to pay for them, and broad ranging cuts to the state budget without a guarantee to protect vital programs. Phil Scott’s campaign promises are not just vague, they are fiscally irresponsible.
“The direction of Vermont will be determined come Election Day. Phil Scott’s national Republican positions will halt our progress and send us backwards. We need a governor like Sue Minter whose support for Vermont families will continue to move us forward.”
