Fundraising Director


The Vermont Democratic Party is seeking a Fundraising Director who will be responsible for creating and implementing an annual fundraising plan and directing the staff and Party in all fundraising activities. They should be skilled in managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously while maintaining a sharp focus on details. The Fundraising Director will be an aggressive innovator of new ideas, approaches, and opportunities to raise funds.​

The Fundraising Director will report to the Executive Director and collaborate with the entire Party team. Salary is commensurate with experience in the range of $50,000-$55,000, and includes health care, vision and dental coverage. The position is a unionized position as part of a collective bargaining agreement with USW Local 4. Candidates must be fully vaccinated and willing to observe health protocols when required during local, state, and national health crises.

DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)
  • Work with staff, consultants, and vendors on an aggressive fundraising strategy, including helping to develop and implementing an annual fundraising calendar, that comprises digital, direct mail, events, major donor, and other targeted fundraising campaigns. 

  • Work with the Chair, Treasurer, and Executive Director to track revenue and expenses,  and adjust goals as needed. 

  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of donor databases and conduct research on new and potential donors.

  • Report income and expenses for all fundraising channels weekly, monthly, and oftentimes daily. 

  • Work with the organization’s fundraising committee on fundraising strategy decisions, public-facing messaging tactics, and other politically sensitive issues as appropriate. 

  • Direct teams of staff, interns, and volunteers to plan and carry out yearly fundraising events, donor appreciation events, and other activities that are part of the yearly fundraising plan.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all fundraising events, donor solicitations, and sustaining membership outreach. 

  • Draft fundraising and event communications, including acquiring approval from the Chair, Executive Director, and elected officials, candidates, initiative campaigns, etc. This includes but is not limited to frequent fundraising emails, donor reports, electoral reports, social media communications, and direct mail. 

  • Perform other such duties assigned by the Executive Director.




The ideal Fundraising Director will be an authentic, inclusive, and strong leader. While no candidate will likely embody every skill set or quality, the successful candidate will demonstrate many of the following qualifications and attributes:


  • A passion for social justice and a commitment to Democratic Party values. 

  • Demonstrated fundraising success, including time directing volunteers/staff. 

  • Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources through multiple channels, including events, call time, digital strategies, and the cultivation of larger donors. 

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. 

  • A friendly and professional member-first demeanor. 

  • Demonstrated large and small project management experience.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience in NGP-VAN; online event registration software; and comfort with basic graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. 

  • Demonstrated success in digital acquisition and fundraising campaigns. 

  • Understanding of state and federal election law is a real benefit.

  • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes, and a results-oriented culture.
