  • Vermont Delegation Endorses Joe Biden for President

Vermont’s Congressional delegation Tuesday announced their unequivocal support for former Vice President Joe Biden for President of the United States with Senator Leahy and Congressman Welch joining Senator Sanders who previously declared his endorsement in April. Saying Donald Trump failed to lead our country, Senator Leahy, Senator Sanders and Congressman Welch said we must restore honest, competent leadership to the Executive Branch.

  • VDP Statement on Structural Bias Against Female Candidates

The 2020 campaign for Lieutenant Governor features a strong group of qualified female candidates. That is undoubtedly an encouraging sign for our state which has struggled to elect women to statewide office. We are disappointed, however, in recent coverage of the race — coverage that further highlights the challenges female candidates face when vying for power.

  • ICYMI: Out-Of-Work Vermonters Ghosted By Scott’s Labor Department

‘“The staff working their tails off at the Department of Labor were ill-equipped to handle the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic because Governor Scott failed to make improvements to the outdated system a priority,” said VDP spokesperson R. Christopher Di Mezzo. “Blaming the antiquated processing system for DOL’s woes falls short of addressing the issue: A lack of investment and prioritization by Governor Phil Scott.”

  • Who is Funding VTGOP Candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor? Hint: It’s Not Average Vermonters

  • Gov. Scott Blocked Health Care Funding for Working Families; Open to Gutting Medicaid Funding in Block-Granting Scheme

Phil Scott has opposed increasing funding for Medicaid, he’s tried to burden seniors and children with higher health care costs, and to top it all off, he’s indicated his willingness to consider transitioning Vermont’s Medicaid funding into block grant funding -- a Trump administration proposal. He well knows the tremendous burden this move would have on working families: Scott himself has said block grant funding would “raise concerns of adequate funding in the future.” Again, if Scott had it his way funding for Medicaid could be gutted by more than 30 percent.

  • Calls for Mask Mandate Grow Louder as Gov. Scott Thinks Mask Mandates are “Controversial” and “Unnecessary”

Vermont’s Republican Governor Phil Scott has refused to institute a statewide mask mandate, calling the measure unnecessary and counterproductive. His refusal to do so is an outlier among a bipartisan chorus of governors from Texas to Kentucky, Massachusetts to Maine, who are mandating their residents wear a mask in public. In fact, Vermont and New Hampshire are the only two states in New England not mandating face coverings.
