FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vermont Democratic Party to Welcome Congresswoman and DNC Vice Chair to Headline Fall Fundraiser
October 22, 2019
MONTPELIER, VT — The Vermont Democratic Party is thrilled to announce the featured speaker for its fall fundraiser — Autumn Harvest — will be the Congresswoman from New York’s 6th District and Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Grace Meng.
Congresswoman Meng is the first and only Asian American Member of Congress from New York State and serves on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Ethics Committee. A tireless advocate for children and families, she founded and co-chairs the Kids’ Safety Caucus, the first bipartisan coalition in the House to promote child-safety issues. Meng has also fought to expand opportunities for communities of color, young people, and women.
As Vice Chair of the DNC, Congresswoman Meng focused her efforts on representing diverse constituencies within the Democratic Party. During the 2016 presidential campaign, she focused on turning out voters in the major Asian American communities, resulting in almost double the rate of early voter turnout in those communities — and a dramatic increase in the number of non-English and new media outlets with which the DNC communicated.
In addition to serving in Congress and as Vice Chair of the DNC, Meng leads ASPIRE PAC which provides support for Asian American and Pacific Islander candidates. Through her AT THE TABLE! PAC, Grace supported 11 successful minority candidates in their federal races in 2016. She also serves as an original member of the Board of Directors of EQUALITY PAC, the political arm of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus.
“I am honored to join fellow Democrats in Vermont this November at the Vermont Democratic Party’s Autumn Harvest” Meng said. “Vermont Democrats are building a strong party with a deep bench in the state and I’m thrilled to support their work — through my role as Vice Chair of the DNC — in any way I can."
Terje Anderson, chair of the Vermont Democratic Party, offered his excitement and welcome: “We’re so exited to be welcoming Congresswoman Meng to our brave little state.” He added, “Her work inside and out of Congress is a real inspiration to all of us here in Vermont and around the nation — Meng is future of our Party and we are looking forward to spending time with her at Autumn Harvest.”
The Party’s fall fundraiser — Autumn Harvest — will be held on November 16th in Stowe, VT at the Snowflake Mountain Resort. Doors open for general admission ticket holders at 4:00 PM, with an event start time of 4:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now at actblue.com/donate/autumnharvest or at vtdemocrats.org under “events.”
