ICYMI: Out-Of-Work Vermonters Ghosted By Scott’s Labor Department
"It's almost like they're making it so impossible that you give up and just walk away. I'm afraid if that kind of thing is happening to me, it's happening to others." -- BFP
MONTPELIER, VT — As unemployment claims in Vermont have risen, too many Vermonters have had their calls for assistance ignored with the blame passed off on an antiquated system.
“Like many Vermonters these days, William Belville has spent the last several months calling the Department of Labor,” reports the Burlington Free Press. “In March, the Washington resident was in the final steps of getting a part-time job as an auto parts delivery driver. Everything seemed set, until the manager he spoke with told him the company was stopping its hiring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Belville’s story is like too many other Vermonters struggling to get the benefits they are entitled to and rightly deserve. The Free Press in their story continues: “Now, nearly four months later, Belville has found little luck with the system, calling up as high as the offices of Gov. Phil Scott…”
Belville summarized his frustration like this: "It's almost like they're making it so impossible that you give up and just walk away. I'm afraid if that kind of thing is happening to me, it's happening to others."
