Party Files Criminal Complaint Against Former Employee Brandon Batham

On August 8, 2019, the Vermont Democratic Party filed a formal police report against Brandon Batham, former director of party operations.

The report alleged Batham, over the course of calendar year 2019 until his departure from the Party in July, embezzled approximately $18,500 through various means, including payroll fraud.

This updates the August 2, 2019 statement from the Vermont Democratic Party in response to press inquiries that referred to seven instances of improper use of Party funds for personal gain, totaling $2,938.31. That earlier number did not reflect a then on-going effort to measure and document numerous instances of payroll fraud during the February-June 2019 period, instances that total $15,629.11.

Batham was asked to resign from his post at the Party on July 17, 2019 and did so the same day.

This press release was originally drafted, and nearly sent, following the filing of the criminal complaint on August 8, 2019, but at the request of Law Enforcement we restrained from making any public statement.
