ICYMI: VT Digger Debunks Trump/Scott “Penny Plan”

October 28, 2016

Burlington, VT  In case you missed it, the VT Digger just debunked Phil Scott’s attempts to bring Donald Trump’s disastrous “Penny Plan” here to Vermont.

“If we just save one penny of each federal dollar spent on nondefense and non-entitlement programs, we can save almost $1 trillion over the next decade. One penny, we can all do that.” Donald Trump

Scott  - who lifted this plan straight from the pages Donald Trump’s playbook  – has made this proposal to cut the state budget by 1% across the board a key pillar of his economic agenda.

Experts have already deemed this plan “potentially drastic” at the national level, and now, the VT Digger is calling the Trump/Scott Penny Plan a “delusion” and that it “emerges rather battered” under scrutiny in Vermont.

Key Points:

“Here’s part of Phil Scott’s plan for holding down the state’s budget.

‘Reduce the operational cost of every agency and department by one cent for every dollar currently spent.’”

“But because Scott has made budget-cutting the foundation of his candidacy, his ‘save a penny on the dollar’ plan deserves scrutiny. From which it emerges rather battered, and not only because it is so vague.

There is no case to be made that any state could save that much money by accounting tricks, or by somehow making government more efficient. That’s a delusion.”
