Vermont Democratic Party Commends Rep. Welch For Impeachment Votes
December 18, 2019

MONTPELIER, VT — Today, the United States House of Representatives, for just the third time in the history our nation, voted to impeach the President of the United States. Vermont’s lone congressperson, Representative Peter Welch, voted in favor of impeaching Donald J. Trump.

Vermont Democratic Party spokesperson, R. Christopher Di Mezzo, released the following statement:

“Today, as Vermonters, we are proud of Congressman Welch for upholding his oath to defend the Constitution — casting votes to impeach President Trump. Yet, as Americans, we saddened that Congress was left with no choice but to impeach Donald Trump for his crimes against the Constitution and against the American people. While this is a dark day for our nation, we can go forward from today’s events with a renewed faith in our Constitution.

As the Senate seeks to determine whether to remove President Trump from office, we look to our distinguished senators, Leahy and Sanders, to faithfully defend our Constitution and hold this lawless President accountable. We have no doubt they too will make Vermonters proud."
