--

Cummings brings to the VDP a proven track record of success overseeing political, legislative, and electoral campaigns benefiting the working families of Vermont and rural New England.

MONTPELIER, VT — The Vermont Democratic Party is pleased to announce that Claire Cummings has been hired as the Party’s next Executive Director. In this role, Cummings will oversee the Party’s effort to fundraise, recruit and support Democratic candidates, and build a year-round grassroots organizing operation that keeps Vermont blue in 2022 and beyond. Cummings returns to the VDP after serving as 2020 Statewide Organizing Director for the Vermont Democratic Party. “Claire is a proven, effective leader who understands the importance of community organizing, relationship building, and the creative collaboration that it takes to support and strengthen a state party. We are very glad that she has agreed to join the Party as we lay the groundwork for the 2022 election,” said Vermont Democratic Party Chair Bruce Olsson. “Claire brings with her a passion and commitment to working people, to equity and inclusion, and to energized and engaging party-building at every level. Her experience working in fundraising, field, communications, and in growing the infrastructure to support our town and county committees is exactly what we need to be successful as a party. I am confident that as Executive Director, Claire will help us continue our focus on winning elections and supporting working Vermonters.” A native of rural Maine, Cummings has dedicated her career to uplifting working people in Vermont and across New England. Prior to being named Organizing Director at the Vermont Democratic Party, Cummings worked as Statewide Deputy Field Director for Bernie 2020 and before that as Coös County (NH) Field Organizer for Bernie 2020. She has also worked as the Regional Affairs Organizer for Planned Parenthood of Maine Action Fund. Cummings’ resume also includes work as a fundraiser, campaign manager, and organizer for various candidates and issue campaigns. “I am so grateful for the trust and support of our party’s leadership, and I am clear-eyed about the significant work ahead. I look forward to fostering an environment of communication and collaboration both within the VDP and our greater Vermont community as we work together to move our party forward,” said Claire Cummings, incoming Executive Director of the Vermont Democratic Party. “We have an opportunity to listen to all Vermonters, and through that work to build a better, more representative, more equitable party. We can continue to be the Party of advocacy and activism in our state, to work for what we believe in and inspire our neighbors to get involved. I am excited by the challenge and the opportunity to do this work.” Claire Cummings holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wellesley College and previously served on the Maine Democratic Party Executive Committee and as Vice President of Maine Young Democrats. She is an alumna of Emerge Maine and of AmeriCorps VISTA. Previously, she was a proud union member of UFCW Local 40, where she served as Bernie 2020 NH Shop Steward, and of USW Local 4 as a staff member of the Vermont Democratic Party. Cummings’ first day on the job will be April 19.

Like many Vermonters, I have been horrified by the October 7 terrorist attack and hostage-taking by Hamas, and the devastating loss of life and destruction that Israel’s response has meant for Gaza. T
