Representative Emily Long of Newfane, Windham County, Democrat, grew up in Vermont on a small farm. She is married to an artist and they have been partners operating an art business since 1978. They have two children and one grandchild. A passionate supporter of public education, Emily has served since 1994 in many capacities on local school boards and continues as a member of her local school board. She was a longtime member and former president of the Vermont School Boards Association and is a former member of the board of directors of the Vermont School Boards Insurance Trust. Emily was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2014.
